Built by hand. Built to last.

Every saddle, bridle and piece of tack that leaves our workshop has been shaped, stitched and finished by hand — the way good saddlery has always been made.

Welcome to Riverina Saddlery. We specialise in beautiful Australian handmade traditional stock and fender saddles, crafted by Mathew Murray and the team in our Wagga Wagga workshops.

With over 50 years in the industry, we pride ourselves on understanding how to create a top quality saddle that fits well, and is comfortable for the horse, as well as meeting our customers’ needs for function, durability and style.

All of our saddles, tack and carving patterns have been designed and honed by Mat. We use only the best leather and fittings — ensuring our customers’ comfort, and more importantly, their safety.

50+ years of craft.

Four stages. One standard.

From the moment a tree hits the bench to the day your saddle is wrapped for delivery, every step is done by hand in our Riverina workshop.

The Foundation

We start with the best fitting trees available, eliminating the need for expensive pads, and we hand-shape our seats to allow the rider to sit comfortably and easily in the correct position. We are confident that our SQH trees will fit most standard Australian Stock horses and can order FQH trees to suit. If you are unsure about the spread that you need, we can use wire tracings to match your horse’s profile to our trees.

The Style

All of our saddle and carving patterns have been designed and honed by Mat to create a distinctive and flowing style. It’s always challenging to find a balance between functionality and beauty, but Mat has used his artistic skills to ensure that our saddles are comfortable and hard-wearing while also looking good in the show ring.

The Technique

With a combined 50+ years in the industry, Mat and the team are stand-outs in the Australian saddlery trade. We use a unique blend of traditional and modern techniques to craft our saddles to ensure they can endure Australia’s harshest conditions while retaining a beautiful look and unsurpassed comfort for the rider.

The Finish

We always polish and dye our edges to seal the leather edges of your saddle, and every saddle is oiled and given a coating of leather conditioner for protection before it leaves our workshop. We use only the best quality leather and fittings, and each one is finished to ensure the long-term durability of your saddle.

Mathew Murray — master saddler.

Mat has spent more than 25 years saddle making, refining the patterns and proportions that have become the Riverina Saddlery signature. Alongside the team, the workshop carries over 50 combined years of saddlery experience.

Every pattern, every line of stitching and every piece of carving that comes out of the workshop has passed through Mat’s hands, or been built to a standard he set himself.

“Absolutely love Mat's work… Hands down the most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden in. I'm so happy that thanks to my amazing brothers I now have one to call my own! Also, I have a set of hobbles that are brilliant, looking forward to continually adding to my Riverina Saddlery tack collection.”
